About Carmen

I believe every book deserves an honest review — not a participation trophy.

I read across genres and subjects without apology: a dark fantasy one week, a memoir about grief the next, a deep-dive into true crime or economic history after that. If a book is good, I’ll say so. If it isn’t, I’ll say that too. That’s the deal.

I built Book Hawk Reviews because the indie and self-published world is full of remarkable books that never get reviewed — and full of mediocre ones that get nothing but five-star praise. Authors deserve better than that, and readers definitely do. Honest criticism isn’t cruel. It’s the most respectful thing a reviewer can offer.

Review Policy

HOW SUBMISSIONS WORK AND WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Who We Review

Book Hawk Reviews covers indie and self-published books across all genres and subjects, including genre fiction, narrative non-fiction, true crime, and genre-blending work. We do not review academic texts, technical manuals, poetry collections, or fan fiction.

How to Submit

Use the contact form below. Include your book’s title, genre, word count, and a synopsis of no more than 200 words. Mention any content warnings. Do not attach files unless we have explicitly asked for them.

Timelines

We respond to all submissions within 2–3 business days. Accepted books are reviewed within 7–12 business days. Longer or more complex works may take slightly longer, and we’ll let you know upfront.

Our Standards

We are committed to honest, detailed reviewing. Every review reflects our honest editorial opinion. We offer both open submissions and an editorial review service for authors seeking guaranteed placement and faster turnaround. Not every review will be glowing. Published reviews represent our honest editorial assessment.

CALLOUT: We are especially keen to hear from debut authors and from writers whose work doesn’t fit neatly into a single genre or category. If you’ve written something that’s hard to classify, we’re probably the right place for it.

Get in Touch

Whether you’re an author looking for an honest review, a reader who’s just finished something brilliant, or a fellow blogger interested in collaboration — I want to hear from you.

I read every message personally and I’ll always get back to you.
